Academic Choices and Assistance for Students

OSU’s Orientation and Enrollment is geared toward the academic decisions your students make as they choose a college and major directions or just choose which first semester classes to take.

Decisions that often seem small to you, may feel like the most important decision ever made to them. For instance, choosing which humanities course to take may actually seem as stressful as some of the life decisions you make as a parent.  For many students, the fear of making a mistake or letting a parent down in some way is huge.

Information for helping your student make the right academic major/college choices, please see our Academic Choices page.

To help your student through these decisions, he/she is assigned to an academic adviser whose primary goal is to guide your student through the academic decisions each semester.  Academic advisers are equipped to answer questions about OSU degree options, academic requirements, campus resources, tutoring options, career and major connections, and many other topics.

Your student will make many decisions that will effect both the short and long term - every one extremely significant to your student.  If you have any questions about your student’s progress or are concerned about a specific issue, you may contact the appropriate academic advising office for general information.  The advisers will do their best to answer your questions without breeching any confidences or legal issues (as laid out by FERPA).  They strive for your student's success first and foremost.
