COLLEGE GROUPINGS
The OSU Registrar's Office lists all degrees and Degree Program Requirements by college on their Web site. This is a good place to begin if you know the general area you seek. Please note that in some cases, there may be multiple major options within one degree area.
INTEREST AREAS & RELATED MAJORS
You will notice that some of the degree areas listed may sound or look similar. The program you choose will depend on your career and personal goals.
So what direction do you take?
- If you have a specific career in mind, research it and learn what degree areas usually support it.
- Visit the Web sites for each degree area and read about their focus.
- Read the course descriptions listed at the back of the University Catalog for that program.
- TALK TO PEOPLE! Find people currently working in the area you seek or in a related area and ask questions about how they got there and what they studied (or wish they had studied).
If you still aren't sure...
- Choose the degree program with the least flexibility to start. In the case of computer related degrees at OSU, that would be Engineering because it has the most "must take this" required coursework and the fewest number of elective hours.
- Let your adviser know you are considering multiple degree areas. He or she will work with you to determine which course choices will give you the most flexibility should you change majors in mid-stream.
